Book Review: "Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay"

Can I please just scream now? I wrote an entire review on this awesome book and somehow erased it...what the heck? Where was auto save on that one?? Anyway, I digress...

Normally I don't read "mommy books", they either bore me to death or leave me feeling horrible inadequate because I don't seem to enjoy endless hours of Chutes and Ladders. The title of this book is what caught my attention at the library. "Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay and Other Things I Had To Learn As A New Mom". I am so glad I took this book out , this lady is hysterical, down to Earth and honest and I think the frank honesty is what makes it so funny. She says what the rest of us our thinking....okay so there are a few women out there who enjoy every aspect of motherhood but most of us aren't her. I absolutely adore my daughter but parenthood isn't butterflies and rainbows all of the time.

The author has an awesome mix of advice and humor and it feels like she is talking to you the way a friend would over a couple of drinks at dinner. I could totally see myself bumming around with this chick.

The book is definitely going to make rounds with the people I know and is a definite must have for any woman who is expecting or a new mom..

A Kiss Before Dying

Woo Hoo my first review! My husband I just watched "A Kiss Before Dying", filmed in color in 1956 and staring Robert Wagner and Joanne Woodward.

Dorothy (Woodward) comes from a family of money however her father is very strict. While at college she meets Bud (Wagner) who she begins to date in secret. Bud has great plans for a successful life and marrying Dorothy will only help those plans but when Dorothy unexpectedly becomes pregnant he sees his plan starting to crumble, he knows that if he married her in a shot gun wedding her father would cut her off from her inheritance. Bud decides that he must kill Dorothy and make it look like a suicide. Once Dorothy is dead he will woo Dorothy's sister who knows nothing of him or his connection to Dorothy. Will she find out the secret and if she does will it be the last thing she ever does??

My eyes were glued to that screen for the entire movie, my husband made me pause it anytime he left the room because he couldn't stand to miss a thing and that doesn't happen often with him, I am definitely the old movie lover in the family.

If you like old movies and you like suspense I implore you to give this movie a chance, it was wonderful!

Welcome Post

Hi everyone and welcome to "The Retro Housewife Reviews", this is a spin off from my old blog "The Retro Housewife", I thoroughly enjoyed writing "The Retro Housewife" and when I closed down that blog I got the itch to blog again so here I am. My vision for this blog is for it to consist of reviews of retro movies and books, perhaps fun blurbs here and there about retro times and retro celebrities....who knows. When I started my last blog the vision was for it to be about going green and somehow it turned into a retro homekeeping/living blog!
